What Customers Say About TiVo TCD649080 Series 2 80-Hour Dual Tuner Digital Video Recorder:

The home DVR seems to always go a few minutes into the next program to assure I don't miss any of the one I'm recording.I also find it annoying that Tivo sticks in advertising -- I'm not thrilled to pay for the service, pay for the data connection, and still have Tivo download and bother me with ads in various places. just doesn't flow as well on the Tivo unit.

This is the second Tivo unit I've owned, and the complaints I had with the original from several years back are mostly still there. I have DirecTV at my house, but couldn't get DirecTV at an apartment I use and didn't like the cable deal for a DVR so went with Tivo.

Heck, it still doesn't estimate the amount of available space remaining, a real pain.I've found the overall presentation is easier to use on other DVRs I have or have had; moving around from screen to screen to access info, chose programs to record, etc. There are so many things I like better about the DirecTV DVR I have at home.

Still no 30 second advance button on the Tivo, which is common on other DVRs. I've also noticed that quite often Tivo stops the recording on the program just prior to the end -- yes, you can chose to extend every program, but I shouldn't have to.

Overall, it does what it is supposed to do, but being the grandfather (so to speak) of the DVR business, the competition is leaving Tivo in th edust.

I could not find enough information for this product on amazon or even on TIVO. It doesn't give mention to the price for services--I ended up returning due to the extra charges and I found a better price.

I have been a TiVo user for almost 10 years now, and I can tell you that TiVo is a fantastic product. If you can still get basic cable, then this Series 2 is a great device (though, it'd be nice if they had the capability to record two digital channels at once -- hence the 4 and not 5 star rating). After hooking it up, I was sad to discover that Verizon no longer offers "basic cable" channels.

The "series 2 dual tuner" will be obsolete soon -- or, at least, it will be relegated down to a "series 2 single tuner". Since Verizon does not offer "basic cable" service, this TiVo is effectively a single tuner DVR.The good news is that TiVo and Amazon both have excellent customer service policies. HOWEVER, BUYER BEWARE.

The series 2 dual tuner can record two shows at once if one is "basic cable" and one is "digital cable" (it CANNOT record two digital channels at once). I recently switched to Verizon FiOS and purchased a TiVo HD XL (great product, by the way). for my den with my 50" plasma HD TV, and this Series 2 dual tuner for the bedroom (old standard def 30" TV).

Amazon offered me a full refund (minus return shipping since it's not "their fault") and TiVo not only offered to fully refund my lifetime service fee, but also offered to upgrade me to a TiVo HD for significant savings.Overall, I'm a little disappointed that I was not able to use this in my bedroom, but this really isn't TiVo's fault, and thanks to excellent customer service in the part of Amazon and TiVo, I am a satisfied customer. Otherwise, you're better off going with the TiVo HD until they offer an updated version of the series 2 that can do two digital channels at once.

For 14 months this product worked great. TIVO's response was that they would replace it for the cost of buying a new one.Even though it broke so quickly, TIVO is worth the price we payed for the box and the service. Then it died. It was not dropped or otherwise abused. If the cable companies could come out with a DVR that was as capable I would rather rent it knowing that if it broke it would be replaced for free. The box itself is rather bulky for the electronics that are actually inside it. The unit could have been designed a little better to make the overall size smaller.Hopefully you get a better box than we did.

What started as a few free channels became an entire digital cable package.all for $13 a month. It seems tivo assumes that you're already paying for standard cable, so it accesses Time Warner's servers and downloads the entire standard cable guide complete with all the channels.

I got an older model that didn't have built in network support, so it took 7 hours to download everything. This is the best Christmas present I ever got.

I bought a tivo because I liked the on demand features, but I discovered a most wonderful loophole. I bought an adapter for my network.

I'm amazed at how idiot proof this thing is.We use the same cable jack for our internet, so I have a splitter plugged into the TV also for free basic cable. Aparrently, that's what it's supposed to do.

Man, I'm glad my wife talked me out of U-verse.
